Ørsted maintenance base in Vlissingen inaugurated

Ørsted’s new maintenance base in Vlissingen was inaugurated yesterday by Steven Engels, director of Ørsted Nederland, Jo-Annes de Bat, representative of the Province of Zeeland, Erik De Bruyn, CEO of Cordeel Nederland, Daan Schalck, CEO of North Sea Port, and John de Jonge, alderman of Vlissingen.

The maintenance base is located in the outer harbour of Vlissingen. The office and adjacent warehouse will be used as a maintenance site for the Borssele 1+2 wind farm. This wind farm has a capacity of 94 wind turbines for 750 MW of renewable energy and is under construction 22 km from the coast. Equipped with solar panels and generating more energy than it consumes, the maintenance building is a sustainable energy-neutral facility. The opening in Vlissingen coincided with Ørsted being awarded the title ‘most sustainable company in the world’ by Corporate Knights.

Erik De Bruyn: “As a family business based in Vlissingen, it’s a privilege for us to be able to contribute to an energy transition project that is important for the region – and to do this for a client who is a prominent leader in the production of green energy in Europe and far beyond.”

On signing the contract, the parties jointly undertook a safety commitment: ‘The safe way or no way is our way’. Having reached 52,000 man-hours worked without any safety incident, we can certainly call it a successful collaboration. Cordeel wishes Ørsted every success in the further development and future operation of the Borssele 1+2 wind farm.
