A successful National Construction Day at Quooker in Ridderkerk

National Construction Day was once again a success this year. On Saturday, 21 June, around 800 visitors discovered how sustainability, technology and innovation converge in Quooker’s new logistics centre in Ridderkerk. This future-proof project has been designed to last more than a century, with a flexible layout to minimise the need for extensive alterations as the organisation continues to grow.

One of the building’s sustainable features is its plinth, made from hempcretea centuries-old yet increasingly relevant bio-based material that captures carbon dioxide rather than emitting it.

The event included guided tours and presentations from us and our partners and featured an obstacle course and bouncy castle to keep children entertained. Despite the tropical temperatures outside, the interior of the brand-new building remained pleasantly cool and comfortable.

The logistics centre represents the first phase of a multi-year growth plan spanning more than 110,000 m². Future phases will include developing factory halls, workshops, offices and various other facilities. A standout feature is the 30-metre-tall high-ceiling warehouse, where Swisslog will soon begin installing a fully automated storage system with room for at least 31,000 pallets.

Many thanks to everyone who joined us and to all our partners who helped make the day a success!
