Building a welcoming NEST
With the New Excelsior STadium (NEST), the club aims for both performance and financial growth while contributing to the development of the city of Rotterdam and benefitting its residents. These ambitions include expanding the stadium’s capacity from 4,400 to 7,500 seats to boost long-term revenue and improve facilities. The multifunctional building is intended to become a hub where housing, professional sport, exercise, education, health and community come together, making a positive impact on the city and surrounding neighbourhoods. The development also offers an opportunity to add functions, improve the gateway to the city and strengthen cohesion in the surrounding area.
The participation meeting opened with brief remarks from Councillor Chantal Zeegers and Excelsior’s General Manager, Daan Bovenberg, and was followed by a presentation from Senior Urban Designer Esther Heemskerk of the Municipality of Rotterdam. Thanks to the large turnout, the interactive part of the meeting generated valuable input for the next phase of the project. This will involve finalising the PAD, which will then be submitted for approval to the municipal executive and the city council.
Together, we are building a brighter future for Excelsior and the city of Rotterdam!
