Cordeel Nederland & Maersk complete state-of-the-art cold store facility on Maasvlakte

Maersk Logistics & Services Netherlands and Cordeel Nederland are proud to announce the completion of a huge cold store facility on Maasvlakte. Officially handed over on 17 January 2025, this landmark project marks a significant milestone in the logistics sector.

The new cold store offers approximately 5,300 m² of frozen storage and more than 12,000 m² of chilled and pharmaceutical space, complementing the cross-dock (Xdock) facility completed by Cordeel last year. The complex also includes dangerous goods storage, an internal border control point (BCP), dispatch areas with nearly 60 docks and spacious zones for value-added services (VAS) such as repacking and sorting.

The project’s scope extended beyond the construction of the cold-storage facility itself to include the installation of building-related technical facilities, cooling and fire-detection systems and site landscaping with greenery. Designed to meet the requirements for a BRL2020 BREEAM-NL ‘Excellent’ certificate, the project underscores a strong commitment to sustainability.

A standout feature is the use of residual heat from the refrigeration system to heat both the adjacent Xdock and the underfloor heating in the cold store. Additionally, the roof is fitted with more than 6,600 solar panels, generating nearly 3.0 MWp of renewable energy.

The project was realised in close cooperation with Maersk, CBRE (project management), Van Kempen Koudetechniek and Barth Installatietechniek. All parties involved reflect on a successful partnership and look forward to seeing this state-of-the-art facility fully operational.
