Bleizo Logistics Centre – set to become Bleiswijk’s striking eyecatcher
Bleizo Business Park is centrally located close to the A12 motorway and the N209 and N470 connecting roads as well as the new Lansingerland-Zoetermeer railway station, which makes it an ideal location for a distribution centre.
The design by Palazzo Architects pays particular attention to aesthetic qualities: the strip that will run the full length of the façade and fan out at the end of the building will tie the offices and warehouse together, ensuring that the structure appears as a coherent whole. Located on both the north and south sides of the building, this pearly-white feature with a green hue will contrast strongly with the dark wall cladding and afford the overall design a distinct, soft appearance. The final design was structurally engineered by our in-house engineering department without losing sight of the unique architectural features.
We have successfully addressed a number of challenges during this project. For instance, the design and construction phases have had to account for a 380,000-volt high-voltage grid, operated by TenneT, that runs through part of the plot. The building is bevelled where it meets the grid and we have been in close contact with TenneT during construction as the cranes and piling rigs have regularly crossed into the prohibited zone with their fall range.
Due to the scope of the project, a Technical Inspection Services (TIS) agency was brought in to conduct risk-based inspections during the design and implementation phases. This collaboration makes Bleizo the first distribution centre in the Netherlands where a TIS quality label is applicable.
Construction started in July 2020 and is expected to be completed in July 2021.
